Surfing and the Pranayama

In the past few days, there have been huge waves! 2.5 – 3 meter waves, wind, and of course, a very strong shorebreak.
I saw two or three boards break in each session. And when I spent my time in the beach cafe, they would still come out of the waves, with broken boards, snapped leashes, and injuries. It's hard to take a rest day and say, 'I'm not going out today because the conditions aren't favorable.' I went out too. I stood on the shore, the shorebreak lasted 10-15 minutes just for me to walk and paddle my board into the water. I was patient, it's hard to be patient at first because you want to be among the waves as soon as possible. But we must learn to be patient and accept the fact that the sea, the ocean, nature also need time to embrace us.
Think of it like a gate, you ring the bell, stand there and wait for it to open so you can walk through it slowly, patiently.
How can I practice patience? With pranayama, that is, breathing exercises. It's a proven fact that the breaking of waves has a meditative effect on us.
I stand there and:
- I observe the stability of my body,
- The factors around me,
- I block out the sounds around me,
- I focus only on the sound of the ocean,
- I awaken my breath awareness,
- I settle into my center,
- And I observe the sensations, the rhythm of the sea,
- And when the time is right, I focus only on the 'here and now',
- I venture into the water with calm and determined movements.
This increases inner balance. And when you stand before your wave, you will be centered in the here and now.
For me, there is no surfing without yoga, and everyday is not complete without practice!
So I can be here and now, in balance.
